Samsung May Be Working on 8.9-inch Android Tablet

Scheduled to release within the first half of 2011

After the touch revolution, Apple has ushered in a laid back approach to computing, and as our editorial team has discovered, this form of relaxed Internet browsing can be really addictive. This has been well reflected in the sales figures for the pioneer iPad, and the subsequent rush from the Android tablets hitting the markets in various 7 and 10-inch form factors. If Korea based Yonhap News Agency is to be believed, Samsung is now gunning for a sweet spot in between the two dominant tablet form factors, with a yet unnamed 8.9-inch tablet project. Yohnap News says that the Samsung's new 8.9-inch tablet will hit the shelves during the first half of 2011. The OS, as expected, would be Android.

The news agency attributes the information to Samsung, adding that a company spokesperson has said that the 8.9-inch tablet will release in the global market through mobile operators. Local Korean media have also reported that the tablet could hit Korean retail as early as the next month. That sounds pretty early and quite hard to believe, considering the tablet doesn't have a name yet. That is unless it's some sort of Korean secret project. However, it's unclear what kind of resolution the tablet will sport. If it's something unconventional, it might cause a problem for some apps.
